I watched Batman primarily when I was in Kindergarten. It makes me realize I probably wasn't reading much more than "BAM" and "BIF" at that time.Maggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16681883169121834569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21503568.post-18948428924749256252007-05-12T07:01:00.000-04:002007-05-12T07:01:00.000-04:00Penelope.That was Penny-lope to me when I was a ch...Penelope.

That was Penny-lope to me when I was a child. I didn't know anybody called Penny-lope, and I'd heard Pen-nell-o-py said out loud, but for some reason I never connected them.

And I'll never forget my father involuntarily laughing at me over two of those words: Odysseus (Oddy-soos) and macabre (mack-a-ber)...The Ridger, FCDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01538111197270563075noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21503568.post-64371053786539389942007-05-11T14:00:00.000-04:002007-05-11T14:00:00.000-04:00When I was young, I had that problem with "Aloysiu...When I was young, I had that problem with "Aloysius".Barry Leibahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14205294935881991457noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21503568.post-83774977296105008472007-05-11T10:32:00.000-04:002007-05-11T10:32:00.000-04:00James and I used to read aloud to each other a lot...James and I used to read aloud to each other a lot. We still do it sometimes, but we don't seem to have as much time now. Sometimes I'll read to him while he's cooking. It used to be primarily fiction, Sherlock Holmes and a little Patrick O'Brian. But now it's usually nonfiction. I have the same problems with the vocabulary, and I frequently ask if I have a pronunciation right.

My sister read Harry Potter to her kids before there were any movies or audio books, and was very surprised when she got the audio books to hear the pronunciation of "Hermione." She was pronouncing it "her - me - own"!!

I remember as a girl having a book with a character named "Yvonne." I had no idea what to do with that, and in my head I was saying "why-von."Maggiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16681883169121834569noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21503568.post-45006570622435511672007-05-11T09:08:00.000-04:002007-05-11T09:08:00.000-04:00I loved the TV series, yes. Then, miracle of miracles!, there was the TV series, which I now have on DVD.

The movie... well, let's not talk about the movie version, although if I were American I believe I would say it sucks.

Happy Towel Day!
