I can only assume it's supposed to be some clever allegory, since the word STRAIGHT does indeed contain letters composed of CROOKED (not to mention BENT) LINES. But I'm not at all sure what I'm supposed to infer from that.

No, never seen it before. And now that I see an explanation, I think it's one of the most strained metaphors I've seen.
