New York Allows Same-Sex Marriage, Becoming Largest State to Pass Law

Yesterday, the New York State Senate approved the bill, 33 to 29.

ALBANY — Lawmakers voted late Friday to legalize same-sex marriage, making New York the largest state where gay and lesbian couples will be able to wed and giving the national gay-rights movement new momentum from the state where it was born.

It’s about time!

Truly amazing that such a basic human right took this long to be recognized.

I am euphoric, and thank you governor Cuomo and other people who made this to happen. Of course I heard Taliban, Al Qaeda, U.S Republicans and other anti-humanity groups are Infuriated.

The NYT had an interesting article this morning on the wheeling and dealing it took to get this measure passed:

D. Thanks for the link to NY Times article; it is highly amusing that conservatives (what a misuse of the word "conservative", the word ignorant is a better substitute) always frown upon homosexuality as a plague that never catches their own. A trip down the memory lane points out Robert Bauman, a well know republican, caught by the police officer while receiving oral sex from a teenage boy in 1993. The republican congressman Mark Foley was caught having sex with a young boy in the bathroom, and Dick Cheney’s daughter being a lesbian. Hopefully in time, they can stop being so ludicrous and come to terms with reality.

@HRH - as a recovering conservative, i must say that one of the main reasons I stopped think of myself as one is their persistent denial of reality and their dogged pursuit of dogma.

Brent,
At the time I used to work for you in Watson, I had a feeling that you were going through the 12 steps of CA. Ostensibly you have recovered well :-)
