Donovan is 60

Today is Donovan's 60th birthday. From when "Catch the Wind" hit the charts in 1965, on through my high school years in the 1970s, I remember Donovan's series of folky hits, songs like "Mellow Yellow", "Sunshine Superman", "Hurdy-Gurdy Man", "Jennifer Juniper", and "Wear Your Love Like Heaven". And may I recommend his newer material? The 1996 disc "Sutras" is wonderful.

And so here is Donovan's first single, "Catch the Wind", and I'll dedicate today's blog, accordingly, to elusive love and to singer/songwriter Donovan P. Leitch, on his 60th birthday.

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I want to be
In the warm hold of your lovin' mind
To feel you all around me and to take your hand
Along the sand
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When sundown pales the sky I want to hide a while
Behind your smile
And everywhere I'd look, your eyes I'd find
For me to love you now would be the sweetest thing
't would make me sing
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

When rain has hung the leaves with tears I want you near
To kill my fears
To help me to leave all my blues behind
For standin' in your heart is where I want to be
And long to be
Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind

Ah, but I may as well try and catch the wind
